Apple is rumoured to be developing a new version of its AirPod wireless headphones that are much less likely to fall out of your ears when you’re moving about.
The AirPods 2 will reportedly look identical to the original AirPods, but will feature a new non-slip coating, similar to the one Google uses for its Pixel smartphones.
They will be available in black as well as white, according to the report by MySmartPrice , and offer improved audio quality as well as Siri support and new health-tracking features.
The new ear buds are expected to be unveiled at an Apple media event next month , alongside the company’s long-awaited wireless charging mat, known as AirPower , and a new entry-level iPad.
The AirPods 2 will reportedly come with a wireless charging case, which will work with the AirPower mat. This charging case will also feature the non-slip coating.
Apple’s AirPods were the source of much hilarity when they first launched in 2016, with many people joking that they would fall out instantly .
However, the company’s chief executive, Tim Cook, claimed it was the weight of the wires that pulled the headphones out of people’s ears, and by cutting the wires, the ear buds would stay in place.
This appears to have allayed customers’ fears, as the AirPods have quickly become one of Apple’s most popular iPhone accessories.
The AirPods 2 are expected to be slightly more expensive than the originals, with a rumoured price tag of £199, up from £159. The AirPower wireless charging mat is rumoured to cost £149.
