Chelsea are currently fourth in Premier League standings with 44 points.
Maurizio Sarri’s squad are currently only four points behind Tottenham and will surely be wanting to close to the gap with their rivals.
Chelsea were beaten by Mauricio Pochettino’s outfit last week in the first leg of a Carabao Cup semi-final.
However, the defeat was not without controversy as Sarri has since suggested the only goal scored in the 1-0 game should not have stood because Harry Kane, who scored, was “offside”.
And the Chelsea manager stated he believes “English referees are not able to use” VAR in order to make decisions.
Speaking to TalkSport, he said: “Maybe the camera of the VAR was in another position. From our camera it was clearly offside.
“From the image from our camera, Kane was offside, clearly offside. But it’s not important. I think it’s more important that the linesman stopped the run, he didn’t follow the ball.
“So for the players on the pitch, it’s clearly offside. He had a big influence on our defenders.
“Maybe the camera of the VAR was in another position. From our camera it was clearly offside.
“At the moment I think that English referees are not able to use the system.”
Moreover, Sarri insisted it is “very strange” that VAR is used on some English competitions but not others.
He went on: “I think they have to study the system. Of course, it’s very strange that in the Premier League there isn’t and in the Carabao Cup there is the system.
“Strange for us, the players and I think also the referees.”
Newcastle travel to Chelsea today in fifteenth place in current Premier League standings.
The club have 18 points and will want to add to their tally this evening.
