New iPad Mini and iPad Air release as Apple announces refreshed tablet lineup

Apple fans have some exciting news this morning with the US technology firm announcing the launch of its all-new iPad Mini and iPad Air.

These popular tablets haven’t been refreshed for a while and they were both certainly long overdue a refresh.

Now the upgrade that many have been waiting for is here with these updated devices arriving packed with new features and extra power.

So, if you are looking to upgrade your current iPad here’s what’s new.

New iPad Air

The popular iPad Air is back and should be better than ever.

This upgraded tablet includes an ultra-thin design with a 10.5-inch Retina display that now includes the clever True Tone technology which adapts to the conditions around you.

Tucked under the shell of this device is Apple’s latest A12 Bionic chip which delivers a 70 per cent boost in performance and twice the graphics capability.

Apple has also now made this tablet compatible with the Apple Pencil stylus and there’s also a keyboard case which turns it into a mini PC.

New iPad mini

The hugely popular iPad Mini has also been given a reboot.

This 7.9-inch tablet gets that stunning True Tone Retina display in an ultra-portable design.

There’s also the mighty A12 Bionic chip which Apple says will deliver three times the performance and nine times faster graphics.

And fans will get Apple Pencil support which allows them to scribble on the screen with this digital stylus.

Both of these new tablets can be purchased with Apple’s eSIM inside which allows them to connect to local networks anywhere in the world and there’s front and rear cameras for taking photographs, shooting movies and making video calls.

“iPad continues to provide magical new experiences for a growing range of uses where it is the absolute best device, from playing games in augmented reality to note-taking and drawing with Apple Pencil, from streaming HD movies and editing 4K films to learning to develop apps with Swift Playgrounds,” said Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.

“Today the iPad family takes two big leaps forward with an all-new 10.5-inch iPad Air that brings high-end size, features and performance at a breakthrough price, and a major upgrade to the 7.9-inch iPad mini, which also brings Apple Pencil, Retina display and the A12 Bionic chip to the many customers that love its compact size.”

The new iPads are available to order starting today and in stores next week.
