The P20 Pro has been one of the biggest surprises of 2018.
Huawei unveiled this flagship earlier this year with it featuring a stunning 6.1-inch OLED Full View edge-to-edge screen, all-glass design and fast processor.
The Chinese technology firm also managed to squeeze a huge 4,000mAh battery inside this device and pack a triple camera on the rear case.
This trio of snappers has plenty of party tricks up its sleeve including the ability to add DSLR-style depth of field to your images as well as offering a 5x hybrid and 3x optical zoom.
There’s also a F1.6 aperture which helps shoot photos when the lights get low and the inclusion of the incredible Night Mode means you can even get decent results in total darkness.
Huawei refined its clever artificial intelligence software to predict what you are shooting.
This means the minute you point the phone at something, such as the family cat, the device instantly sets itself to take the perfect picture.
The same happens in hundreds of scenarios including shooting in snow, on the beach, fireworks, green landscapes and many more.
There’s no question this phone is hugely impressive and when Express.co.uk reviewed the P20 Pro back in April we gave this phone the full five stars, saying: “If Huawei was trying to make everyone sit up and take notice it’s certainly achieved that.
“The P20 Pro is up there with the best of them and we wouldn’t be surprised if Huawei’s trophy cabinet isn’t full with awards by the end of 2018.”
Now the P20 Pro has picked another of those all-important technology gongs with the Pocket-lint awards crowning this device the best smartphone of the year.
Along with taking home that coveted prize, the P20 Pro also picked up an even bigger award beating products from the likes of Apple, Samsung and Sony to win the best gadget of the year.
Speaking about Huawei’s success, Stuart Miles, founder of Pocket-lint, said” “The awards this year really show the huge ground Huawei has made over the last years from being a brand that was virtually unheard of in the UK to a company that is winning this year’s EE Pocket-lint Gadget Awards Product of the Year.”
Along with Huawei, there were plenty of other winners on the night.
Best smartwatch went to Apple for its Apple Watch Series 4, Sky Q took the prize for best entertainment device and Sony’s brilliant WH-1000XM3 are officially the world’s best headphones.
Other products that took the top spots included the Sonos Beam, Apple iPad, Google Home and the FitBit Versa.
