Fintech Research at Beijing’s Tsinghua University (THUIFR) has partnered with
US-based tech firm Ripple to announce the Blockchain Technology Research
Scholarship Program (BRSP). The initiative aims to bring the best Chinese
graduates together in 2019 to study industrial development and global
Along with their
participation to this programme, the students will also have opportunities to
take part in corporate events and visits.
Ivy Gao, director of international
cooperation and development at THUIFR, said: “BRSP aims to help students have a
comprehensive view of the latest international regulations on blockchain
technology, and most importantly, I believe, this programme would greatly help
with their future research or career in the field of blockchain technology.”
Ripple is also joining hands with leading universities all over the world via
its University Blockchain Research Initiative in order to support and expedite
academic research, technical development and innovation in blockchain,
cryptocurrency and digital payments. The company first announced this project
in June, as
this publication noted , reportedly having invested £38mn in blockchain
education at 17 universities globally.
Ripple’s investment, which has been made to colleges including the world-famous MIT, is part of the company’s University Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI). According to Ripple’s SVP of business operations, Eric van Miltenburg, globalisation has driven a “demand for technological solutions and talent to solve the world’s hardest financial problems”, with Ripple citing a 150% increase in LinkedIn job posts featuring the terms “blockchain” or “cryptocurrency” in 2017. And hence, the company is looking to “stimulate widespread understanding and innovation in blockchain”, while meeting a demand among students for learning around blockchain, cryptocurrency and fintech topics.
