Substitutes for costly Apple AirPods are being sold for £120 less than official product by popular online retailer

Apple’s iconic earphones – sorry ‘AirPods’ – caused quite a storm when they were first released, not only because they look like they’re missing something, but because they’ll set you back a huge £150.

In a mark-up surely outrageous even for Apple, the statement wireless white earphones (which as well as working with all iPhones and iPads, are also compatible with the Samsung Galaxy S7 or HTC 10 phone) are currently being sold across the high street for a hefty £159 at the likes of Very, Apple and John Lewis.

But for those of us who aren’t keen to splash out over a hundred quid for the real thing, there’s plenty of bargain replicas up for grabs. And the best of the bunch appears to be from discount site Wowcher.

Wowcher are currently selling a near-identical pair of AirPod-style compatible headphones for the much more palatable price of £12 at the minute – 75% cheaper than their usual £52.01 price tag.

They might not be Apple, but they’re still pretty decent

Aimed at forever changing the way we use headphones, the AirPods will instantly turn on and connect to your Apple device when you take them out the charging case.

While there’s no word on how good the knock-off version of them actually is, the Wowcher description states that they work within a 10 foot range, with up to four hours of playback.

This is how they appear on the Wowcher site

Sadly, you will have to pay delivery on top of that, which will set you back an extra £3.99.

And if you’re anything like us, we’ll no doubt lose them in a few weeks anyway, so we’d rather not fork out £150 for something that’s only a few centimetres wide. Apart from Apple, will anyone even be able to tell the difference anyway?
