‘They Will Disrespect You, Those Sons of B*****s’

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte warned his politician daughter Sara Duterte-Carpio away from any aspirations for the country’s top office, and said he “deeply regretted” standing.

Duterte-Carpio, also referred to as Inday Sara, has already followed in the footsteps of her father by becoming the Mayor of Davao, the same role he held before ascending to the presidency. She is touted as a potential successor and has expressed interest.

But the controversial and outspoken president, whose brutal “war on drugs” has cost thousands of lives through extrajudicial killings that he has encouraged to happen, said government corruption and critics made him question why he stood to lead the southeast Asian state.

“I lost my enthusiasm to work. Actually, I deeply regretted it. I regretted my decision to run for president,” Duterte said at a swearing-in ceremony for local government officials in Cagayan De Oro City, PhilStar reported.

“That is why when people speculated Inday to run for president, I told her, ‘Don’t do it, ‘Day. You will not be able to control it. They will disrespect you, those sons of b******.”

Duterte then referred to Senator Antonio Trillanes IV, a prominent critic of his, and other politicians who vocally oppose him as “rogue soldiers” who do not achieve anything.

He also spoke of his frustrations with government corruption, which he characterized as an “insurmountable” problem for the country, Inquirer reported.

“I don’t have any obligation to you to tell a lie. I’m sick and tired of the system,” Dutere, elected in a 2016 landslide, said at the swearing-in ceremony, ABS-CBN News reported.

There is speculation about how much longer 74-year-old Duterte will remain president amid rumors of poor health, which are denied. The next presidential election is scheduled for 2022.

The Philippine president also spoke of a scandal last year in which government tourism officials entered into a contract with a subsidiary of a Hong Kong-based firm to build a casino without putting it out for public tender.

He sacked the officials involved on the same day construction work began on the new casino in Entertainment City, the resort’s fifth.

“They allowed a casino to be erected there without a public bidding. I got so angry…What’s the essence of a casino inside Nayong Filipino? Why would you put it there? How stupid,” Duterte reportedly said.

Duterte recently caught attention for homophobic remarks in which he said he was “cured” of being gay.

According to Rappler, Duterte mocked his rival Trillanes by saying his movements show he is homosexual. Duterte also reportedly “confessed” that he was gay before he met his ex-wife Elizabeth Zimmerman.

“Good thing Trillanes and I are similar. But I cured myself,” Duterte said during a speech in Tokyo, Japan, earlier in June. “When I began a relationship with Zimmerman, I said, this is it. I became a man again.”

He subsequently added: “Duterte is gay. So I am gay, I don’t care if I’m gay or not.”
